Woodbine Mohawk Park held another action-packed 10-race harness racing card that saw Ontario star Adare Castle (Muscle Mass) get back in the win column in the $32,000 Preferred-2. It also featured two divisions for the second leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Grassroots for two-year-old trotting fillies.
The Preferred was won by Adare Castle and was her first win in five starts. She had a solid four-race win streak in the Ontario Sired Graduate Series. Since then, she has been near the top but finds putting that nose on the line difficult. Adare Castle trotted the mile in 1:52.4, four-fifths of a second of her lifetime mark of 1:52.0. She has been with trainer Mark Etsell her whole racing career and continues to be predominantly driven by James Macdonald.
ADARE CASTLE REPLAY
The first split for the OSS Grassroots kicked off the card with a 2:00-mile victory from Flirty Dancer (Lookslikeachpndale). The filly earns her second career win and gains a new lifetime mark. She was the co-betting favourite at post time at 2-1 odds, and the $2.00 win ticket paid $6.20 on her.
FLIRTY DANCER REPLAY
Flirty Dancer won her debut at Georgian Downs earlier in July and followed it up with a sixth-place finish at Woodbine Mohawk Park in the ONSS Gold. Paul Reid only had one horse enter on the card, and Tyler Borth drove her to victory.
Matthew Bax also had a perfect one for one night as a trainer when his Birthday Money (Resolve) won the second split for the Grassroots. The filly now has back-to-back wins and a new lifetime mark of 1:58.4. It was the only drive of the night for Todd Ratchford, and he capitalized on the opportunity. Birthday Money went off at 5-1 odds at post time and paid $12.90 on a $2.00 win ticket.
BIRTHDAY MONEY REPLAY
After sweeping the Battle of the Belles eliminations at Grand River Raceway, Louis-Philippe Roy was in the Woodbine Mohawk Park winner’s circle with Sue Anne (Muscle Mass) for the final Grassroot split. This is Sue Anne is a perfect two-for-two to start her career and is with trainer Eric Nadeau. She ended with 4-1 odds at post time and paid $10.20 on a winning ticket. She beat out 8-5 favourite, Tea Lake, down the stretch.
SUE ANNE REPLAY
Woodbine Mohawk Park continues racing on Aug 1 with a 10-race card starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
