Mountain High (Always A Virgin) did not visit the harness racing winner’s circle in 27 starts last season, but he’s already done it once in 2023.
The gelding won his second start of the year at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (Jan. 16). Scot Wray piloted him to a wire-to-wire win from post six by two lengths in 2:00.3 over 14-year-old Oldfriendskentucky.
MOUNTAIN HIGH REPLAY
Bernard Desmond owns and trains the winner, a seven-year-old. The gelding lost all 27 starts last year, which he began at Pompano Park and moved to Desmond’s barn following that track’s closure. He had missed the board in all 11 outings since August. His prior win came on Dec. 23, 2021. He has won eight times in 114 tries and amassed $83,148 overall.
The next program at The Raceway at the Western Fair District is scheduled for Tuesday (Jan. 17). The 11-race card will feature a Preferred Trot.
