Fourteen-year-old Machal Jordan (Mach Three) tallied his first harness racing victory in more than four years as he won a claiming race at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Feb. 20).
The gelding, a consistent conditioned horse on the Woodbine Entertainment circuit throughout the 2010s, returned to racing in January after a hiatus of nearly two years.
In his sixth start of the season on Monday, he hurried away from post seven under the guidance of Scott Young but allowed Unique Beach (Jonathan Drury) to go by as they approached the quarter with :26.4 speed. Machal Jordan sat the pocket through :56.3 and 1:25.4 middle panels, kicked out in the stretch, and out-finished the pacesetter to win for the 32nd time in his career in 1:54.2.
Mister Godro (Louis-Philippe Roy) closed to be second over Unique Beach.
MACHAL JORDAN REPLAY
Machal Jordan has now earned $550,246 in 253 starts. He last won on Nov. 17, 2018 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. He was shelved in early 2019 and did not resurface until qualifying in October 2020, after which he went back to the barn without making a pari-mutuel start. He qualified and raced once in 2021, finishing third at Mohawk Park on Mar. 20, but was not seen again until qualifying on Jan. 6, 2023. Ken Switzer, who has been his trainer since 2012, owns the veteran pacer.
Also on the card, Warrior One (Father Patrick), whom Yannick Gingras bought outright and moved to Ontario in January, won for the first time in Canada after five tries. Sylvain Filion steered the seven-year-old to a 1:53.4 score. Warrior One finished second in his first three starts at Woodbine Mohawk Park and fourth in his prior attempt. The gelding, previously a free-for-aller at Yonkers Raceway, the Meadowlands, and Dover Downs, has won 26 times and earned $575,079 in 116 career starts. Richard Moreau now trains him.
WARRIOR ONE REPLAY
Racing will resume at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, Feb. 23.
