Dustylanegoliath crushed the field and two track records in the $40,352 Barrieau-McIsaac for three-year-old pacers, the biggest race of the year at Exhibition Park.
In line to Gilles Barrieau, the son of Steelhead Hanover parleyed his pylon post into an early lead before the favoured Woodmere Stealdeal (Marc Campbell) sprinted past after finishing the first quarter mile in :28. Woodmere Stealdeal laid down :54. and 1:24.3 middle fractions on the lead, but he couldnāt contain a loaded Dustylanegoliath, who left the pocket and blew by on the far turn. Dustylanegoliath soared down the stretch to a five-and-a-half-length victory in a lifetime-quickest 1:53.
Elliot Moose (Jason Hughes) passed a tiring Woodmere Stealdeal late for second. The latter was third, more than 15 lengths clear of the nearest rival.
DUSTYLANEGOLIATH REPLAY
Dustylanegoliath returned $5.80 to his backers as he took his ninth career win. He has earned $64,874 across 19 starts for Daniel Ross of Belfast (PE), who spent $15,500 to acquire him from the 2019 Altantic Classic sale. The 1:53 clocking was several seconds faster than the previous three-year-old gelding record, which stood since P H Breakaway set it in 2005. It also beat the previous best all-age time set by Big League by four fifths of a second.
The race missed Rotten Ronnie, who set the fastest mile in Northside Downs history on Jul. 24, due to a leg injury sustained while shipping.
Also on the card, Rideau Carleton Raceway mainstay National Debt made the trek to New Brunswick to win the Walter Dale Invitational Pace. Driver David Dowling put the stallion on the lead and let him pace to victory, which he did by five and a half lengths in 1:55.1. The 10-year-old son of Allamerican Native, normally trained by Yves Tessier, entered the Colin Johnson barn for the race. Francois Morin of Beauceville owns the horse.
Exhibition Raceway will be dormant for August and return to racing on Saturday, Sep. 4.
