Notching his fourth straight harness racing victory, Allywag Hanover and driver Todd McCarthy made it look too easy in capturing the $100,000 Mohawk Gold Cup Invitational Pace in a romp Saturday at Mohawk Park.
Leaving from post six in the 8th race stake, McCarthy had Allywag Hanover in front early with Wheels On Fire (Doug McNair) sitting the pocket trip to the first quarter in :27.
With no one dare enough to come first-over, Allywag Hanover cut the mile into the backstretch past the half mile in :55 and then picked up the pace with a :26.3 quarter to the three-quarters in 1:21.3. Enavant (Bob McClure) tried coming first-over but could not gain any ground.
In the stretch Allywag Hanover was the strong horse, pulling away to win by four and one-half lengths in 1:48.1. Enavant was second with Warrawee Vital (Trevor Henry) third.
ALLYWAG HANOVER REPLAY
It was the eighth win of the year for Allywag Hanover. The four-year-old gelded son of Captaintreacherous is trained by Brett Pelling for the Allywag Stable of Wellsville, PA. He paid just $2.40 to win as the overwhelming favorite.
āHe has developed a new dimension,ā said Brett Pelling. āHe can leave and really carry his speed.ā
