The “Money Man” Scott Zeron worked his magic in another big harness racing stake as he stickhandled It’s My Show (Sweet Lou) through traffic to capture the $540,000 Canadian Pacing Derby by a nose on Saturday (Aug. 31) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
It’s My Show, seeking his first win at Mohawk since he won the 2023 North America Cup, floated out from post two and secured the pocket heading into the first turn. Longshot El Rey (Louis-Philippe Roy) went forward to set a :26 first panel before Voukefalas (Jordan Stratton) brushed by at the half in :53.4.
It’s My Show remained locked in the three-hole around the final turn with favourite Abuckabett Hanover (Dexter Dunn) grinding away first-over to three-quarters in 1:21.1. The latter went by as they came down the lane, and a line of four horses blocked the path of It’s My Show as they entered the final eighth of a mile.
But as Voukefalas faded, Zeron found a pocket of space for It’s My Show, who unleashed his remaining pace in deep-stretch. The stallion powered through on the inside of Abuckabett Hanover and put his nose in front at the wire to land the 8-1 upset in 1:48.1.
Abuckabett Hanover was a game second. Oakwood Ardan Ir was third.
IT’S MY SHOW REPLAY
It was the 11th lifetime victory in 35 starts for It’s My Show. The stallion ended a nine-race losing streak with the win, making his record two-for-11 on the year. Linda Toscano has trained the homebred to $1,715,280 for Richard and Joanne Young.
