Warrawee Xenia (Walner) posted her third straight open-length win in a conditioned harness racing contest at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (Jun. 21) and sliced more than two seconds off her lifetime mark.
The Shawn Steacy-trained three-year-old, sent away at 1/5, floated out from post five and crossed over into the three-hole as R Royal Port (Sylvain Filion) set the :28.3 quarter time. Bob McClure ordered a backstretch brush from Warrawee Xenia, and she completed the move by the midway point in :57.3.
She cruised to three-quarters in 1:26 and stormed six-and-a-half lengths away from R Royal Port to score in 1:53.2. Socks N Crocs (Doug McNair) finished third.
The time equaled the fastest mile of the season for a three-year-old trotting filly. Stakes winners Adare Castle and Saundra both previously matched that clocking.
WARRAWEE XENIA REPLAY
The winning filly is now four-for-nine and has earned $40,000 lifetime for owners David McDonald of Cornwall, Dale Larson of Kent City, Bertrand Gilhespy Stable of Edmonton, and A K Malik Stable of Ottawa.
Another three-year-old trotter, Simcoe Seelster (Royalty For Life), got back on track after two consecutive breaks with a three-and-three-quarter-length score in 1:55.4.
The colt briefly held the fastest time of the season for a three-year-old trotting colt when he won in 1:54 on May 19. He then broke stride in an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold contest prior to the start and again in a conditioned race before qualifying successfully on Jun. 14.
W G James Stables, John James, and Deborah Aubin, all based in Blackstock, own the colt. William James trains the now-three-time winner who has earned $30,750.
Four fields of two-year-olds will feature on the 7:00 p.m. Thursday card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
