Jewels Diamondeyes (Betterthancheddar) resumed her winning ways with a fifth harness racing victory in her eighth start as a two-year-old on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
The filly went to the front in her usual style for Daryl Thiessen, setting a first quarter of :29 and a meandering half-mile time of 1:01.1. Sweet Cheeseus (Garrett Rooney) came first-up in the second quarter and began to pressure the leader as they raced down the backstretch.
Jewels Diamondeyes led by a length at three-quarters in 1:30.3 and put away Sweet Cheeseus as they turned for home. Two Across Marion (Nick Boyd) became the new threat at the top of the lane, coming out of the pocket to make her charge, but Jewels Diamondeyes held her off by a half-length to score in 2:00.
Two Across Marion was second. Jemenar flew from last at three-quarters to a show finish by a length-and-a-half.
JEWELS DIAMONDEYES REPLAY
Jewels Diamondeyes won four straight from August to September but had an uncharacteristic poor outing last out at Flamboro. The filly, trained by Lori Lepage, has now earned $19,010 for her breeder and owner Rebecca Williamson of Blyth.
Travis Henry was the nightās top driver with three wins.
