Armycaptin Hanover (Captaintreacherous) swept from eighth to victory in the harness racing Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Wednesday (Sep. 14) for his first win of the meet.

Kelly Hoerdt pulled the gelding back to eighth, sacrificing early position from post seven as a three-pronged speed duel created a :26.2 first quarter. Hoerdt moved him off the pylons just before the half in :55.1 and began a march towards the top.

Armycaptin Hanover advanced to fifth and picked up cover on the backstretch, going three-wide to avoid the fading Mach Steady (John Abbott) at three-quarters in 1:23.4. The former then unleashed his remaining pace at the top of the stretch and sprinted clear by a length-and-three-quarters to win in 1:53.

I Ama Rocket (Brandon Campbell) out-finished last week’s open winner, Jewels Dragon (David McKellar) for second. The winner, a dominant force in the spring meet, returned $15.

ARMYCAPTIN HANOVER REPLAY

Armycaptin Hanover has now won 27 of his 95 starts and has amassed a $181,101 bankroll. He won four consecutive Opens in the spring months at Fraser and missed the board once in 16 appearances at the level. Hoerdt trains the six-year-old and co-owns him with fellow Beaumont resident Blair Corbeil.

Filly and mare pacers feature on Fraser Downs’ next card, set for a 7:00 p.m. PDT start on Thursday, Sep. 15.
