Armycaptin Hanover (Captaintreacherous) swept from eighth to victory in the harness racing Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Wednesday (Sep. 14) for his first win of the meet.
Kelly Hoerdt pulled the gelding back to eighth, sacrificing early position from post seven as a three-pronged speed duel created a :26.2 first quarter. Hoerdt moved him off the pylons just before the half in :55.1 and began a march towards the top.
Armycaptin Hanover advanced to fifth and picked up cover on the backstretch, going three-wide to avoid the fading Mach Steady (John Abbott) at three-quarters in 1:23.4. The former then unleashed his remaining pace at the top of the stretch and sprinted clear by a length-and-three-quarters to win in 1:53.
I Ama Rocket (Brandon Campbell) out-finished last weekās open winner, Jewels Dragon (David McKellar) for second. The winner, a dominant force in the spring meet, returned $15.
