Come On Artie (Artspeak) tasted harness racing victory for the first time in nearly a year, ending a 39-start losing streak as he rallied to win at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (Dec. 9).
The gelding, an 11-time winner last season, landed sixth from the second tier, leaving the pylons to take a second-over position behind Punchesinbunches (Nick Steward) before the half. Samuel Fillion tipped him three-wide approaching three-quarters, and Come On Artie out-kicked his cover before battling past pacesetter Docsphillycheese (Garrett Rooney) in the stretch for a 1:58 victory. Docsphillycheese finished second ahead of Pebble Beach Pro (Lorne House).
COME ON ARTIE REPLAY
Come On Artie’s most recent prior win came in the Valedictory Series in December 2023, his penultimate start last season. In his 38 prior outings this season, he collected eight place finishes and five thirds. Dwayne May trains the four-year-old for owner/breeder Diane Sylvestre of Sarnia.
Travis Henry earned a driving grand slam on the evening, further reeling in leader Rooney. Henry is now behind by 10 wins.
The next race night at The Raceway at the Western Fair District will feature the Drivers Holiday Challenge. The contest will support the local Toys for Tots charity. First post is set for 5:50 p.m. EST.
