CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Opening up at the end of the mile, Shifting Views (Big Jim) scored a mild harness racing upset in the eliminations of the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association Autumn Series Saturday afternoon (Nov. 26) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Corey MacPherson jumped up on the Paul Conway owned and trained Shifting Views and sent him to the front over a heavy track rated four seconds off to win in 2:03.4 with post time favourite Doc Darryl (Driven by Colin Sheppard) in arrears. Shifting Views went through splits of :30.1, 1:01.3 and 1:32.2 before opening up by four-lengths to win over Doc Darryl while Pleasing Pink (Brady Sweet) was third.
Diamond Call (Well Said) was the chalk choice in the other $2,500 elimination as the five-year-old pacer led through fractions of 29.4, 1:00.1 and 1:31.2 before fending off a late challenge by Pacific Delight (Gilles Barrieau) to win by a quarter-length in 2:03.1. Grand Ave Legend (Myles Heffernan Sr.) was third. David Dowling drove the popular winner for trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Dale and Ronnie Rennie of Elmsdale.
Trainer Rennie also celebrated a victory with Woodmere Rollily (2:03.1) in line to MacPherson in race 6 for the Rollwithitharry mare’s 13th victory on the season. MacPherson netted a triple as trotter Summit City Nate returned to the winner’s circle after a 2:04.2 win for trainer Phil Desroche.
Dowling scored a driving triple on the day winning newcomers Winrlosedrnkdaboze (2:05.3) for trainer Earl Watts and Countercurrency (2:03.3) from the Jennifer Doyle barn.
Hallofaride made his first winner’s circle appearance at the $2,800 Open Trot level winning by open lengths in 2:05.2 over race favourite Jesiejesorjessica (Dowling) and Windmeredontuworry (MacPherson). Janice Hubbard of Saint John, N.B., owns and trains the winning son of Angus Hall.
The $3,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred 1 class was claimed by Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) in 2:03.4 over a hard closing Ladylike (Murphy) and Tobins Brownie (Dowling). Hughes trains the winner for owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge.
