The strategy seemed simple enough, go straight to the lead and never turn back.
It worked just that way for Awesome Hill and harness racing driver Trevor Henry Friday night as they captured the $35,000 Preferred-Handicap Pace for Mares at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The 9th race feature saw Henry and Awesome Hill shoot out from post six and grab the lead with Dabarndawgswatchin (Jody Jamieson) able to also leave and get the two-hole tuck.
Awesome Hill led the field through fractions of :26.3, :56.2 and 1:24.1 before receiving some pressure first-over from the race favorite, So Much More and driver James MacDonald.
It was too little, too late as Awesome Hill and Henry were in total control, hold on at the finish to win by a quarter of a length over So Much More with Dabarndawgswatchin third.
AWESOME HILL REPLAY
It was the fourth win on the year for Awesome Hill. The four-year-old mare by Heās Watching is trained by Chantal Mitchell for owner-breeder Tom Hill of Hamilton, Ontario. She paid $13.70 to win.
