Beach Moment (Control The Moment) capitalized on a harness racing pocket ride to win her first Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap at Flamboro Downs on Thursday (Nov. 10).
The four-year-old mare, away as the favourite, put in early work for Travis Henry to take the front but allowed Major League N (Ed Hensley) to immediately swapped positions with her. The latter finished the first quarter in :27.1 and half in :56.2.
Beach Moment sat back as Major League N repelled So Frisky (Colin Kelly) as they raced through three-quarters in 1:25. The pocketed mare then dived to the passing lane and surged by the pacesetter to score in 1:54.2.
She was three-quarters-of-a-length on top at the line. Saulsbrook Jessie (Brett MacDonald) finished third.
BEACH MOMENT REPLAY
The winning mare, a Blake Macintosh trainee, has now won eight times this season and 13 overall. She has earned $153,410 in 65 lifetime tries. She won a Preferred-level race at Grand River earlier this year.
Henry and MacDonald shared the dayās top honours with three wins each.
Flamboro Downs will continue racing on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6:35 p.m. EST.
