CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Bee Two Bee (Sunshine Beach) begun his path towards Gold Cup and Saucer glory on a special Harness The Hope program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of a four-win performance by harness racing driver Jason Hughes.
The $3,800 preferred pace saw Gold Cup and Saucer hopeful Bee Two Bee draft in second to the quarter in 27.1 behind pacesetter Time To Dance (Driven by Marc Campbell) before making a move to the lead with a 55.2 half-mile clocking. The six-year-old then pushed down the throttle with three-quarters in 1:23.3 before closing out the mile with a six-length victory in 1:51.4. Time To Dance was second with No Plan Intended (David Dowling) third. Hughes trains and drives newcomer Bee Two Bee for owners Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown.
Hughes also scored with Spicey P (1:54.3) from his own barn, St Lads Skip (1:56.2) for trainer Brendan Mullen and Dunsan Harry (1:58.1) for trainer Saul Lanigan.
Kenny Arsenault doubled up as a trainer-driver with Usurper (1:55.1) and JK Last Chance (1:54.1).
Trainer Jeff Holmes made a pair of trips to the winner’s circle as Allaboutthecash (1:59.3) had a maiden breaking score for driver Ken Murphy and Elroy Shiner (1:56.1) won his third straight in line to Brady Sweet.
The Harness The Hope card featured a pair of female driving showcase events with Whims Drop Off (1:58.2) winning for driver Ambyr Campbell and trainer Ken Wilkie. The other event saw Mick Dundee (1:59.4) hit the wire first with Brittany Kennedy in the bike for Donald MacNeill.
