Betcha Baby (Bettors Delight) took down top Century Downs pacing mares in the Fillies and Mares Preferred with a last-to-first upset harness racing victory on Friday (Sep. 16).
The six-year-old sat fifth of five for the first half under orders from Brandon Campbell, began her rally down the backstretch, and rolled by three rivals on the backstretch. Favourite If Only Id Known had separated from the field, but Betcha Baby tracked her down in the final quarter to score in 1:54.
The latter finished second by three-quarters of a length. Past Affair (David Kelly) was eight lengths back in third.
The winner returned $20.50 as the second-highest price in the field.
BETCHA BABY REPLAY
Betcha Baby moved into the Campbell barn in March. She was winless since her debut for the trainer/drive but had missed a cheque only once. Timothy Kane of St. Albert co-owns her with Calgary residents George Rogers, Raymond Henry, and Jodi Loftus. The mare is 12-for-108 lifetime with $246,250 in earnings.
Campbell drove three to victory on the day.
The next card at Century Downs on Saturday, Sep. 17 is full of stakes action. It features two divisions of the Brad Gunn and Norm Kennedy Memorials, the ABSS Marquis final and ABSS Maverick final. First post will be at 2:15 p.m. MDT.
