Betterontheisland (Betterthancheddar) was dominant in her first three harness racing starts of 2023 at Rideau Carleton, prompting a shift to the bigger Woodbine Mohawk Park.
She proved that call correct on Thursday (May 18) by passing Moonstruck (Doug McNair) down the lane to score in a new career-best 1:52.4 with James MacDonald aboard.
Betterontheisland enjoyed pocket positioning for the first three quarters before shifting out in the stretch and narrowly out-finishing pacesetter Moonstruck by a neck. All Of Me (Bob McClure) passed horses late for third.
Betterontheisland is now six-for-14 lifetime. The filly won twice as a two-year-old but started her sophomore campaign off with a bang ā three straight open-length wins at Rideau Carleton. Brian Scott trains the filly and co-owns her with Amy Griffin of Brinston.
BETTERONTHEISLAND REPLAY
Doug McNair and Jody Jamieson were the cardās leading drivers with three wins each.
Racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park continues at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 19.
