Big night for Rooney sees minor milestone

Harness racing driver Garrett Rooney reached 1,500 career wins on Monday (Dec. 18) with his five-tally performance at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

The reinsman scored with Fine By Me (Sunshine Beach, 2:02.2), Better Off Single (Bettors Delight, 1:59.4), Favaro Seelster (Control The Moment, 2:01.2), Getting Euchred (All Bets Off, 1:59.3), and Ha Im In Control (Control The Moment, 2:06.1). The highlight win came with Getting Euchred, who circled the field, utilizing a three-wide charge and persisting to the finish for the half-length win.

Rooney is now 1,504-for-11,191 all-time. The reinsman is at the end of a career season in which he has broken all previous  personal records for starts, wins, and earnings. He is second in the track’s drivers’ standings to Tyler Borth.
