A 25-1 upset by Blue Glamber (All Bets Off) highlighted six divisions of Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots harness racing action on Friday (Jun. 16) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
She capitalized on a pocket trip in the first division for three-year-old pacing fillies, vaulting past leader Starlight Dancer (Jody Jamieson) by mid-stretch and taking a 1:51 victory with Travis Cullen aboard. Mist Amber (Bob McClure) stormed home for second from seventh at the eighth pole. Twin B Echo (Trevor Henry) was third.
BLUE GLAMBER REPLAY
The clocking beat Blue Glamberās previous career best by more than three seconds and was the fastest of all six divisions. The Jodie Cullen-trained filly is now five-for-20 lifetime with $54,776 in earnings. Travis Cullen owns and bred Blue Glamber.
The other five divisions went as follows:
- Division two: Century Jamila (Bettors Delight, James MacDonald) by a length-and-a-quarter in 1:52.4. Godiva Shadow Girl (Doug McNair) second, Wifey Said So (Cullen) third. The winner has now won four straight and is four-for-nine lifetime. Trained by Shawn Steacy.
- Division three: Bala (Sportswriter, McNair) hung on by a head over Dangerous Curves (Jamieson) in 1:52.1. Mystic Wild Rose (Phil Hudon) finished third. It was Balaās first win of the season and her third lifetime in 13 tries for trainer Peter Brickman.
- Division four: Mending Fences (Artspeak, McNair) got the job done as the closer, nabbing Ima Doll (Tyler Borth) by a head in 1:52.1. Sweetest Belle (MacDonald) took show. Mending Fences has $40,440 in earnings and four wins from 14 lifetime outings. Meg Crone trains and co-owns the filly.
- Division five: Twin Delight (Bettors Delight, McClure) scored off a backstretch brush with a length to spare over Elises Delight (Henry) in 1:52. Shake It Twice (Louis Philippe-Roy) rallied for third. Twin Delight also won the first leg and is six-for-13 in her career with a bankroll of $91,456. Steacy trains her for Hutt Racing Stable.
- Sunburnt (Sunshine Beach) made it a Grassroots triple for McNair, catching All Of Me (McClure) in the dying stages to win in 1:52.1. Talk Curdy To Me (Henry) was third. It was the third win in 23 career tries for Sunburnt, who was second in leg one. Paul Cameron trains and co-owns the filly, who has now earned $75,464.
Leg three for three-year-old pacing fillies is set for Jul. 20 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
