Bucktober (Flanagan Memory) rallied to victory in the Preferred-Handicap Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Wednesday (Mar. 20) for the harness racing geldingās second win in his past three starts.
With regular driver and co-owner Tyler Borth in the bike, Bucktober trailed the field of five through the first quarter in :28.3 and half in :58.3. He was backed up by the labouring Insanity (Jason Ryan) in the second half but rejoined the top three approaching three-quarters in 1:28.3.
Bucktober reeled in the leaders further as they turned into the stretch and swung to the outside before roaring by all three to prevail in 1:59.4.
Johnny Buckshot (Scott Wray) was second by a length as pacesetter Dahlquist Hanover (Travis Henry) finished third.
BUCKTOBER REPLAY
Bucktober has made all 55 lifetime starts with Borth in the sulky, and Wednesdayās win was number 22 for the five-year-old. He is now three-for-nine on the season. Katie Macneil trains the gelding, who has earned $132,840, for owners Tyler and William Borth of Ingersoll and Karen Sparling of Thamesford.
Garrett Rooney racked up four wins on the evening, beating Borth by one.
Racing is set to resume at The Raceway at the Western Fair District at 5:50 p.m. EDT on Friday, Mar. 22.
