The Raceway at the Western Fair District’s 2023 leading driver Tyler Borth added six victories to his lead in this season’s harness racing standings to close out the month of January on Wednesday.
Borth opened his account in the third with Ultimate Twix (Pang Shui, 2:01.1), the mare’s second straight win after going one-for-30 to start her career. Borth has been on board for both recent wins for trainer Dean Nixon and owner/breeder Madonna Morrison.
ULTIMATE TWIX REPLAY
The reinsman won two straight in the sixth and seventh, scoring with I Loved Her First (Bettors Delight, 1:59.4) and E L Wild Sport (Sportswriter, 2:01). Borth has won six times in a row with the former, a four-year-old Mike Timpano-trained mare. For the latter, it was his first tally since April and his eighth lifetime in 81 starts.
Borth guided Cash Advance (Artspeak) to a late-charging victory in the ninth in 2:00.1. The stallion erased a large gap to catch his cover going into the final turn, went three-wide, and barreled up in the stretch to win by a length. The six-year-old, trained by Timpano, is now seven-for-24 lifetime.
CASH ADVANCE REPLAY
The final pair of victories for Borth came with Petro Angel (Archangel, 2:01.4) and Maximus Power (Shanghai Phil, 2:00). Petro Angel’s win was his first in three attempts this year for owner/breeder/trainer Darryl Laver. Maximus Power has gone back-to-back with Borth to up his career total to 21 wins in 147 appearances. Cassidy Schneider trains the nine-year-old for Martin Kuepfer.
Borth’s six-win night improved his seasonal record at the track to 29-for-78. He now leads Garrett Rooney by 10 wins. Across all tracks, the driver has won 42 of 212 starts, making him the national leader after one month.
There was an accident in the eighth race in which Jooner went off stride and unseated driver Anthony Haughan. The race was declared a no contest but both horse and driver were unharmed.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District will hold racing next on Friday, Feb. 2, with a 10-race program beginning at 5:50 p.m. EST.
