Scrappy conditioned gelding Brodys Scrapper (Mach Three) resurfaced at Flamboro Downs on Tuesday (Sep. 6) after nearly nine months away and overcame a tough trip in his first start of the harness racing season.
Travis Cullen took three-hole shelter with the gelding through the opening quarter of :28.4 and made his move as the field rounded towards the stands for the first time. Brodys Scrapper stared down leader Proberts Legacy (Paul Mackenzie) as Cullen worked away through :57.4 and 1:25.1 middle panels.
The 11-year-old, sporting a 4/5 price tag, shrugged off any tiredness as they turned for home and forged clear.Ā Partyintheshadows (Samuel Fillion) gained to the finish but was three-quarters of a length too late as Brodys Scrapper crossed the line a winner in 1:54.3.
Proberts Legacy held on for third.
