The Raceway at the Western Fair District’s 2023 Aged Trotter of the Year, Bucktober (Flanagan Memory), produced another award-worthy performance in the track’s Preferred on Tuesday (Apr. 9).
Working around Insanity (Jason Ryan) through the opening quarter, the gelding took point as they arrived at the first station in :28.3. Tyler Borth gave Bucktober a soft second split of :59, but the first-up Andy Over (Ed Hensley) forced a quicker tempo to three-quarters in 1:27.4.
Bucktober had that rival silenced by the head of the stretch, and the leader stepped on the gas coming down the lane to complete a lifetime-best mile of 1:56.4 with a four-and-a-quarter-length margin of victory.
Insanity was second with Andy Over alongside him in third.
BUCKTOBER REPLAY
Bucktober is now four-for-11 on the year with three wins at the Preferred level. Borth co-owns him with William Borth of Ingersoll and Karen Sparling of Thamesford. The five-year-old gelding has seen success under trainer Katie MacNeil and has now tallied 23 lifetime wins in 57 career starts with $139,568 in the bank.
Midweek racing continues at The Raceway on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
