Harness racing driver Brandon Campbell began his Tuesday afternoon at Century Downs with a significant career achievement by scoring his 2,000th driving victory in the Open.

In a clinical performance, Campbell placed Tiempo Hanover on the front, rated him to :27.1, :54.3, and 1:22.3 fractions, and urged the horse home for the win in 1:52.

Campbell’s drives have earned just less than $12.5 million in his eighteen seasons in the sulky. The 38-year-old Calgary-based horseman is also a successful trainer with 613 career wins from 3019 starts and $3,419,300 made by his starters. He conditions Tiempo Hanover, a seven-year-old Western Ideal gelding.
Michael Campbell made it back-to-back milestones for reinsmen named Campbell as he earned his first career driving victory in the second race. He steered Dominate Dragon, a four-year-old Custard The Dragon stallion, to an upset 1:55.4 win. Campbell picked up the lines officially for the first time in May after a year and a half of working as a trainer on the Alberta circuit. He has harnessed 73 winners in 328 starts to date.

He trains Mrs Suhwiggins, the five-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon who passed six horses in the final eighth of a mile to win the day’s second Open in 1:55.1.

Century Downs returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 1 with a card that features the $78,870 Ralph Klein Memorial final and the $74,380 Gord and Illa Rumpel Memorial final. Eliminations for the ASHA Filly Pace and the Century Casinos Pace will also go forward.
