CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Rev has been the next best thing to unstoppable his past three starts and will put his harness racing record to the test Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The richest Atlantic bred pacer of all-time The Rev will be the one to knock off in the race 14 featured event on the 15-dash Saturday afternoon card. All the action gets underway at 12:30 P.M. on the lone program of the week in Island harness racing as the Capital Oval switches to a Saturday only schedule for the next four weeks.
The Rev, a 10-year-old son of Western Paradise, is assigned the outside post 5 in the field of as many in the $2,900 preferred pace. Gilles Barrieau trains and drives the champion for owner Jeffrey Skinner of Hammonds Plains, N.S. With $621,127 in lifetime earnings to his credit, The Rev was exceptional his last start while flashing a closing quarter of 26.4 to defeat Screen Test (Driven by Corey MacPherson) by the narrowest of margins. Screen Test has post 4 in this week's class while rail control belongs to his stablemate, Revenant (Adam Merner). Rockin Indy has a pair of victories in his last two starts and will get the catch driving services of Marc Campbell from post 2. Silverhill Buddy (David Dowling) has five-straight top-three finishes and makes the move up to preferred company this week from post 3.
In Fillies and Mares Open pace action in race 10, Filly Forty Seven will be looking for a repeat performance in the $2,800 featured mares pacing class. Filly Forty Seven handily disposed of her foes in the last two editions of the fillies and mares Open Pace but will have the added competition of a pair of her stablemates in this week's class. The Marc Campbell trained Filly Forty Seven is relegated to the outside post 6 with Jason Hughes picking up the catch driving call this week for Island owners Darryl MacLean, Cory Carver, Katelyn Smallwood and Alan MacDonald. The former sophomore Atlantic Triple Crown winner will face off with stablemates Dreamfair Zenfire (Adam Merner) from post 3 and Arc Light (Campbell) from post 5 this time around. Champion pacing filly Woodmere Skyroller (Dowling) has post 4 in the top flight class while the inside belongs to Traces Of Purple (Myles Heffernan Sr.) and Collective Wisdom (Barrieau).
