Canada First Lady (Artspeak) broke her maiden in upset fashion to give harness racing driver Braiden Reibeling and trainer Kyle Reibeling their first wins of the 2023 season on Saturday (Feb. 11) at Flamboro Downs.
The filly, who broke in each of her past three pari-mutuel starts, got away sixth as odds-on favourite I Loved Her First (J. Bradley Harris) broke at the start. Canada First Lady moved to the outside flow in the second panel and made her three-wide move as the field passed three-quarters. She circled much of the pack as they turned for home and tracked down pacesetter Perfect Mia (Scott Coulter) in the stretch to score by a head in 2:03.2. Shadow Of Art (Paul Davies) finished second from a pocket trip.
