Carro B Bunsen (Blue Burner) snagged the final Preferred-2 Pace of the harness racing season at Century Mile on Saturday (Dec. 31).
The stallion, driven by Nathan Sobey, waited until the final turn to pull out of fourth but hustled down the lane to overhaul the leader and his delayed cover late to score at 15-1 in 1:54.2. He beat Munchie Chris (Logan Gillis) by a neck. Outlaw Gunsablazin (Michael Hennessy) was third.

It was the four-year-old’s first Preferred-level victory. He has 10 wins in 70 lifetime appearances and has earned $95,661. Rodney Starkewski of Lamont trains the stallion and co-owns him with Keith Boras of Red Deer.
Phil Giesbrecht was the top driver of the season by one win over Brandon Campbell. David Kelly and Trevor William tied for the training honours with 19 wins apiece.
The track smashed it’s previous handle record with a total wager of $512,308. The previous record was $294,000.
Century Mile will kick off its 2023 season on Saturday, Jan. 7.
