Carter Gimblett was in the bike behind Always Been Crazy (Sunshine Beach) in the third race at Flamboro Downs on Sunday (Mar. 10). This was the first official start for Gimblett as a harness racing driver.
The six-year-old gelding jumped to an early lead and opened the race with a 29.1 first quarter. Always Been Crazy continued to keep a steady pace and was a length better than his competition. He passed the half in 1:00.1 and the three-quarters in 1:29.4. Gimblett kept the foot on the gas and the duo won in wire-to-wire fashion in 2:00.4.
Boots N Brian (Larry Small) finished third but was placed second while Shadow Warrior (Austin Sorrie) was moved from fourth to third. Just A Poor Boy (Samuel Fillion) went off stride while crossing the finished fine so was placed fourth.
ALWAYS BEEN CRAZY REPLAY
Always Been Crazy had yet to finish in the top-three this year which is likely why he closed at 9-1 odds. This was his 18th career win and he has now earned over $90,000 in prize money.
Gimlett made six appearances this year in qualifying races before hitting the track for real.
Flamboro Downs continues its racing schedule on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 6:55 p.m. EST.
