Fans were treated to a picture perfect afternoon of live harness racing at Clinton Raceway. The Catch Driver Claiming Series got underway for fillies and mares $7,000 claimers.Ā
The race 1 field lined up behind the gate to contest the first of two divisions of the Catch Driver Claiming Series. Dali Cat (Dali) and driver Tyler Borth sprinted off the gate to make the early lead through the fastest opening quarter of the day, 28 seconds flat. After significant breathers in the second and third quarters the sprint was on, Blackcreek Rosebud and Kiss It Better provided a thrilling late stretch battle, but they could not reach Dali Cat in the final strides.
The second division saw similar tactics from driver Tyler Borth with another Doug Currie trainee. Northern Belle and Borth controlled the race through fractions of 29.4, 1:01.4 and 1:31.4 before bracing for pocket sitter Zealous Seelster (Big Jim). Zealous Seelster, piloted by Travis Henry, sprinted past the leader in the late stages of the race with the fastest last quarter of the day of 29 seconds. Dali Cat and Zealous Seelster both secured spots in the $8,000 final on Sunday, July 3rd.
The Central Huron Fire Department was trackside for a charity event for muscular dystrophy and the Central Huron Fire Department Association. Over $855 was donated to muscular dystrophy through a 50/50 raffle and $1,812 was raised for the Central Huron Fire Department Association during their charity barbecue.Ā
