Caviart Belle (Captaintreacherous) put the two-year-old pacing filly division on notice with a huge harness racing victory and stakes record performance in the $114,350 second Eternal Camnation division on Saturday (Aug. 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Yannick Gingras tucked Caviart Belle briefly into third on the first turn before resuming their frontward march on the backstretch. She quickly swept to the lead and set a half time of :55.4, then left the field behind on the final turn. She hit three-quarters in 1:23.2 while on top by a bunch and gave Gingras little work to do as she cruised home to a dominant victory in 1:50.1. Its A Love Thing (James MacDonald) caught Elodie Hanover (Dave Miller) in the lane for second.
āThis one, sheās got some gears,ā Gingras said after the race. āLike (going 1:)50.1 and sheās done it real easy, and she keeps getting better and better each start. Sheās been really good on the front the last few weeks, but sheās raced out of a hole and qualified out of a hole. Every time I race her like that, she was great as well. Sheās just all class and hopefully we have a nice future.ā
CAVIART BELLE REPLAY
It was Caviart Belle’s third consecutive win and fourth lifetime in six outings. She has won both Pennsylvania Sires Stakes legs she’s entered and a round of the Kindergarten. Her career earnings now total $140,013. Nancy Takter trains the filly, a $375,000 Lexington Select sale purchase by Caviart Farms of Vienna (VA).
Her 1:50.1 clocking beat the 1:50.2 record set by Precocious Beauty in 2013.
Genie Hanover (Captaintreacherous) pulled a rabbit out of her hat to prevail in a deep-stretch scramble and win the $114,350 second division.
Todd McCarthy had to drive on with the filly as the holes closed on the pylons, and she took over briefly past the quarter in :27. Coco Jo Jo (Miller) then completed her march to the top at the half in :56 and hit three-quarters first in 1:24.2.
Genie Hanover angled into open air as they came down the stretch and bore down on Coco Jo Jo. She forged past that rival, but Odds On Platinum (Sylvain Filion) split them late and brought a final challenge to Genie Hanover, who dug deep and held on by a nose in 1:52.2.
Odds On Platinum was a narrow second. Coco Jo Jo kept the show spot.
āIāve always liked her, sheās just been a little green,ā McCarthy said after the race. āEven the way she raced tonight sort of shows sheās still got a lot to learn. Sheās got a lot of bottom to her. Every time I asked her down the lane, as much as (she) was looking around, she kicked in and fought for me. So I was very pleased with her.ā
GENIE HANOVER REPLAY
The win was Genie Hanoverās first. It was a big flip in form after her two middling performances in the Kindergarten Series to start her career. The Tony Alagna-trained rookie has now earned $59,775. She went for $90,000 at the Harrisburg sale to owners Pryde Stables of North York, One Point Six Racing of Toronto, Joe Sbrocco of Brecksville, and Caviart Farms.
