Harness racing returns to Northern Alberta with Century Mile beginning their winter meet this upcoming Friday (Nov 18).
The opening card has 13 races on the docket and the biggest of the day is the Fillies and Mares Preferred which will go for a purse of $13,500. Five mares and one filly will battle it out for the early bragging rights in the first major test at Century Mile.
The youngest entry is the three-year-old filly Divine Art (Outrageous Art), but she fits into this field nicely already having over $248,000 in earnings. Sheās already visited the winnerās circle on 11 different occasions this year and will be looking to add to that on Friday evening. Sheāll also look to improve on her current lifetime mark of 1:53.2 and will have trainer Nathan Sobey in the bike to do so.
The most race experienced mare in the group, Betcha Baby (Bettors Delight) draws the rail position. This will be her 114th lifetime start but she has only won 12 times to date. Brandon Campbell will be in charge of the reins and will be looking to get the six-year-old mare her fourth win of 2022.
The winningest pacer out of the bunch is Mrs Suhwiggins (Custard The Dragon). In her 98 lifetime starts she has crossed the finish line first 27 times. Her last win came back on June 13th of this year and she will look to add to her $360,000 in earnings.
Stash The Cookies (Sunfire Blue Chip) has been hot as of late. In her last five starts, two were wins and all five finishes were in the top three. She already has 11 wins and over $100,000 in earnings in 2022 and will look to improve on that as much as she can during the Century Mile meet.
Century Mile has 16 race days currently on its calendar and there will be no shortage of excitement over the next couple of months in northern Alberta. They will be hosting eight of the top drivers across Canada on November 24th for the National Driving Championship. As well the Western Canadian Pacing Derby and Century Casinoās Filly Pace will be coming up shortly.
