CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a first over brush to the front Sophist took the Thursday evening harness racing feature pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
David Dowling supplied the winning steer aboard Sophist in the $2,200 top pace for trainer Chris MacKay and owner Jordan MacKay of French River stopping the clock in 1:57.2. Collective Wisdom (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) was second with Killean Finale (Ken Murphy) third.
The Lloyd Hannah Stable of Summerside doubled up in trot action on the card as Windemeredontuworry provided a mild upset in the $2,500 Open trot in 2:00.3 over a rain soaked capital oval.
Barrieau was in the bike behind the Atlantic stakes graduate for owner Eric Johnston of Summerside as he won over Hop Up (Corey MacPherson) and Glider Man (Kenny Arsenault). Hannah's other win was also for owner Johnston as Summit City Nate overcame post 8 to be placed first in his $2,000 trot assignment to give driver Dale Spence his first ever trotting victory in the race bike. Supreme Monarch (MacPherson) won the dash but was placed behind Summit City Nate after going inside two consecutive pylons in the final turn.
Total wager was $40,175.
