CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The top rookie trot filly in the history of Prince County harness racing will take on some seasoned foes in the first leg of the Allstar Cresting Prospect Trot Series Thursday evening (Aug. 25) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Thursday card will be the same as all evening programs on P.E.I. for the rest of the season carrying a newly scheduled 6 P.M. opening post time.
The trot showdown happens in race 3 for $3,200 as Summerside Raceway two-year-old track record holding filly Camco Erin (My MVP) has rail control for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan and owner Blue Diamond Racing Of Emyvale. The McGuigan barn has been hot in August with the teamster being awarded the Earl Smith Memorial award for leading percentage trainer of Old Home Week along with the top percentage driver of the week award.
The two-year-old filly was second in a neck decision to the post 3 starter on Thursday My Secret Ability (My MVP, Kenny Arsenault) while the giant in the mixed group of two and three-year-olds is post 4 starter Victory Now (What The Hill). The Jeff Holmes trained Victory Now (Ken Murphy) has been racing the Gold division of the Island Oceans Trot Series and has scored nine top-three finishes from 10 starts in 2022.
The Post Time Picks side with the Summerside Raceway track record holder to notch another win.
“Camco Erin has had a nice start to her racing career and just missed a tight finish last time out. The good news is she is on the rail and McGuigan had a great Old Home Week so they’re on top of the ticket.”
Race 6 on the card is the Island Ocean Trot Series Grassroots leg for $3,500 presented by JD Marine & Diving Inc with Striking Pride (Striking Lindsey, Marc Campbell) the top choice from the Paul Morrison barn fresh off a second-place finish in 1:59 during Defriended’s track record performance Old Home Week.
Morrison co-owns the four-year-old with Jillian Furness and John Breau. Also in the field is New Brunswick invader Hallofaride (Angus Hall, John Davidson) from post 6 and Along For The Ride (Merchandiser, Ambyr Campbell) with post 2.
