Cheddar Bay (Betterthancheddar) returned to The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (May 1) and made it three victories in his past three starts at the harness racing track as he hung on in the Preferred Pace.
The gelding put in work for J. Bradley Harris in the first quarter. He hustled out from post seven and hung three-wide on the first turn to take the lead. He completed the panel in :27 and made it to the half in :57.1. One-to-five favourite No Plan Intended (Tyler Borth) left the pylons just prior to that point and asserted himself with a first-over assault.
He pulled to level terms and eclipsed the leader at three-quarters in 1:25.2. No Plan Intended pushed further to lead by a half-length, but Cheddar Bay battled back on the final turn to retake the advantage and led into the stretch. No Plan Intended produced even more pace on the straightaway, but a valiant Cheddar Bay kept his head in front to prevail in 1:55.4.
Woodmere Rollnpop (Samuel Fillion) was third in a blanket finish.
