Cheese Party (Betterthancheddar) completed a successful Prospect Series campaign as she won the final for three-year-old pacing fillies in her fifth consecutive victory on Friday (Sep. 27) at Grand River Raceway.
In her usual off-the-pace style, the filly dropped in fifth for Austin Sorrie and came second-over before discarding her cover approaching the final turn. She flew three-wide, circling foes as they straightened for home, and she marched past Wheres My Phone (Travis Henry) for the win in 1:53.4. Distant Lover (Todd Ratchford) charged late, but Wheres My Phone held her to the show cheque.
CHEESE PARTY REPLAY
Cheese Party is now seven-for-28 lifetime for Kyle Bossence, who owns and trains the filly. She has won all of her past five outings, including two Prospect Series legs.
Shetrotsalot (Muscle Mass, Scott Young) took the Prospect Series Final for three-year-old trotting fillies. In her fifth win of the season, the former Grassroots finalist advanced on the outside and rolled right to the top on the final turn, drawing away to score by three lengths in 1:57.1. Sue Anne (Samuel Fillion) finished second over Dontmesswithmama (Anthony Haughan).
SHETROTSALOT REPLAY
Shetrotsalot, trained by Paul Walker for Keith Coulter, has now collected five wins and $57,872 in 29 career outings.
Onyx Bovino (Bettors Delight) battled to victory in the Prospect Series Final for sophomore pacing colts and geldings. He found himself in the four-hole after a nifty move by J. Bradley Harris to get him there from the second-tier, but he left the pylons before the half. He flushed out double cover, advancing behind Larjon Levi (Fillion) before grinding away at him first-up on the final turn, and Onyx Bovino struck the final blow in the closing stages to score by a half-length in 1:52.1.
Larjon Levi was a tough second with Tricky Mcwicky (Brett MacDonald) four lengths back in third.
ONYX BOVINO REPLAY
The winner, a homebred for Glenview Livestock, has earned $52,909 through 23 lifetime outings. Lacey McCabe has trained the gelding to eight lifetime wins.
Wheelzablazin (Wheeling N Dealin, Jason Ryan) concluded the nightās Prospect Series action, going all the way to win the Final for three-year-old trotting males. The Paul Cameron trainee rebuffed Buttinski (Ratchford) around the final turn and handily held off Lockdown Romeo by a length for the 1:58.1 triumph. Livingitlarge (Lorne House) was third.
WHEELZABLAZIN REPLAY
Wheelzablazin is 10-for-18 this year and won three legs of the Prospect Series. The gelding has tallied 11 lifetime wins and $69,674 in earnings in 26 attempts.
The two-year-old Prospect Series Finals are set for Oct. 11 at Western Fair.
Racing at Grand River Raceway resumes at 6:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, Sep. 30.
