Harness racing horseman Dan Clements surpassed $20 million in career driving earnings with a third-place finish aboard Smile In Style (Big Jim) on Saturday (Jun. 25) at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Clements gave Smile In Style a golden trip in the fourth race. He right-lined the seven-year-old mare into the pocket from post five and watched leader Beach Journey (Scott Wray) do the work up front.
Smile In Style came up empty in the stretch, but she had enough stamina to hold third and give Clements $480 in purse money ā enough to hit $20 million in career earnings.
Beach Journey completed a dominant victory in 1:57. E R Rhonda closed for place (Preston Shaw).
DAN CLEMENTS MILESTONE REPLAY
His milestone was recognized in the winnerās circle two races later when Clements piloted Wisk Key K (Bettors Delight) to a gritty 1:55.1 first-over victory. His son, Ryan Clements, was on hand to present a commemorative board for the achievement.
WISK KEY K REPLAY
Clements returned to catch driving in May at Hiawatha after a retirement of nearly six years. He has since racked up nine wins, nine places, and 10 shows in 52 starts for a 0.333 UDRS. The London, Ont. resident has driven 2,555 winners in 17,494 career starts to date.
