Clever Character (Tellitlikeitis) went wire-to-wire in the harness racing Preferred Pace at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 10).
He narrowly kept hold of rail control going into the turn from post one and held off two quick leavers to secure the lead for Travis Cullen. The gelding laid down :27.1 and :57 first-half panels and carved out a two-length advantage by three-quarters in 1:25.2 under urging.
The five-year-oldās victory was never in danger as he powered home to score in 1:53.4 by two-and-three-quarter lengths.
Lyons Johnnyjnr (Tyler Moore) had no answer from the pocket. Saulsbrook Jessie (Brett MacDonald) finished third.
CLEVER CHARACTER REPLAY
Clever Character has now won two straight and five of 30 this season. The Jodie Cullen trainee is 19-for-87 lifetime and has earned $483,417. The Dundas-based A1stable and Ronald Cullen co-own the gelding with Paul Sanders of Surrey.
Also on the card, three-year-old Resolve filly Clockwork Orange (Paul Mackenzie) joined the six-digit earnings club with a 1:58.2 victory in the second race. The Blake Macintosh-trained filly has won four of her 17 career outings and has now earned $100,508.
