Harness racing driver Daryl Thiessen went to the hospital after an accident in the closing night card at Flamboro Downs on Thursday (May 31).
The incident occurred just before the start of the first when driver Travis Cullen fell from the bike of Tojenniferscredit due to a broken bit. The loose horse hooked wheels with Jake Loewen, driven by Thiessen, causing the reinsman to fall. Both horses were deemed okay by the veterinarian but were scratched. Cullen continued driving after being cleared by paramedics, but Thiessen was sent to the hospital.
Thiessen posted on Facebook later that he suffered a broken pelvis, writing āMy heart is broken.ā He was scheduled to drive in Friday’s Camluck Classic.
Scott Coulter finished the meet as leading driver with 79 wins, 10 clear of Samuel Fillion. Gerard Demers tallied 47 victories to take the training title.
The two divisions of leg 1B of the Propsect Series for three-year-old pacing fillies were won by Wheres My Phone (Big Jim, Travis Henry, 1:56.1) and Well Assessed (Sunshine Beach, Coulter, 1:55.3).
Flamboro Downs racing will resume on Thursday, Sep. 5.
