Grey Sea (Custard The Dragon) led all the way to go back-to-back in the Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs on Saturday (Jul. 1) and take her eighth harness racing win of the season.
It was a textbook performance: the mare pushed up from the pylon post for Michael Hennessy and led through :27.4, :57.1, and 1:24.4. Stash The Cookies (Logan Gillis) broke the breeze first-up nipped at the leader’s heels down the stretch, but Grey Sea proved uncatchable and reached the line a length-and-a-quarter ahead in 1:53.4. Stash The Cookies persisted for second in a valiant effort. Metaki (Brandon Campbell) took third with a late rush.
GREY SEA REPLAY
Grey Sea has 12 career wins and a bankroll of $72,430 in 17 appearances. She won the Bev Sears Memorial and BC-bred Stake earlier this season. Nathan Sobey trains the four-year-old mare for Seaspray Stables of Nanaimo.
Century Downs is set to continue racing on Friday, Jul. 7.
