CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Colin Johnson barn topped the field in both feature harness racing events on the first Thursday (May 11) evening program of the 2023 Summer Meet at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
New Legacy (Father Patrick) pounced to a three-length victory in the $3,100 Open Trot unloading a :28.1 final quarter to win in 2:01.1 over Jessiejesorjessica (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) and Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy). Marc Campbell was in the race bike behind the winning trotter for owner Don MacNeill, Debbie Element and Matt and David Burke.
Campbell and Johnson also took the top pace of the evening in race 6 as Shes So Sweet (Sweet Lou) delivered off the front in 1:56.1 in the $2,800 contest for owners Element and Matt and David Burke.
The three-year-old Now Showing (Captaintreacherous) delivered a crushing six-length win in race 2 in 1:56.2 with Corey MacPherson at the lines of the Leith Waite trainee as the colt broke his maiden with a 27.3 final quarter.
The Melissa Rennie barn had a pair of winners on the evening with Woodmere Rollily in 1:58.2 in race 8 and Ms Moyse in 1:59.1 in race 10, both in line to Adam Merner.
