Saulsbrook Victor (Source Of Pride) reached $300,000 in earnings on Saturday (Mar. 18) with an impressive harness racing victory in the $36,000 Free For All at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Austin Sorrie, aboard Saulsbrook Victor, let Wheels On Fire (Doug McNair) do the work in the first quarter of :27.2 before circling from the pocket. Saulsbrook Victor hit the half in :55, and Wheels On Fire livened the pace to three-quarters in 1:23 as he emerged from the two-hole to challenge the leader.
Wheels On Fire made early headway, but Saulsbrook Victor kicked away again as they straightened for home. With Wheels On Fire in the rearview mirror, Sauslbrook Victor coasted to the finish to stop the clock in 1:50.4.
Wheels On Fire held second. Points North (Jonathan Drury) split horses to get the show placing.
SAULSBROOK VICTOR REPLAY
Saulsbrook Victor has won 15 of his 54 lifetime starts and has raked in $300,865. Ronald MacDonald trains the five-year-old for owners Brett MacDonald of Freelton and Brent Maclennan of Charlottetown. The gelding is five-for-eight at the top level this season.
The New Holland Pacing Series also continued on the card, setting the stage for next weekās final.
Nautical Hanover (Captaintreacherous, James MacDonald) repeated in the first division, scoring by a length-and-a-quarters in 1:51.1. The late-flying Commanding Officer (Tyler Jones) and Armor Seelster (Sylvain Filion) got up for second and third, respectively. The winner, a Benoit Baillargeon-trained stallion, has won seven of his 35 lifetime starts and has earned $277,827. Richard Berthiaume owns the four-year-old.
NAUTICAL HANOVER REPLAY
The finals for both the trotting and pacing sides of the New Holland Series are set for Saturday, Mar. 25. The trotters will race for $72,000, and the pacers have $70,000 on the line.
Woodbine Mohawk Park will continue racing on Monday, Mar. 20 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
