Dabarndawgswatchin (Hes Watching) prevailed in a short-but-competitive harness racing field at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday (Dec. 2) in the track’s $30,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2.
The mare sat fourth through the opening half-mile as Voelz Delight (Sylvain Filion) paved the way through :28.1 and :57.1 fractions. Louis-Philippe Roy pulled Dabarndawgswatchin first-up while passing the midway point and pushed her to within a length-and-a-quarter by three-quarters in 1:24.4.
Facing the drizzling rain, Dabarndawgswatchin fell behind on the turn but re-ignited in deep-stretch to defeat the stubborn Voelz Delight for the victory in 1:53.
Need To Breathe (Travis Cullen) also passed Voelz Delight late for second.
DABARNDAWGSWATCHIN REPLAY
It was the 14th lifetime win in 59 starts for Dabarndawgswatchin and her first at the Preferred level. The Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner has earned $423,914. Dave Menary trains the mare for owner/breeders Julie Ferguson of Greely and Lloyd Stone of Portland (ON).
Racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park resumes on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
