Dabarndawgswatchin (Hes Watching) captured her second straight Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 in a photo-finish harness racing victory at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday (Dec. 9).
After starting third, Louis-Philippe Roy ordered her to the lead on the backstretch. The mare faced 8-1 shot Intothemysticmoon (Phil Hudon) from five-eighths and led into the stretch. The latter found a big late surge near the wire, but Dabarndawgswatchin kept her head in front for the 1:51.4 score. Intothemysticmoon was second. Need To Breathe (Travis Cullen) finished third.
DABARNDAWGSWATCHIN REPLAY
It was the third consecutive win for Dabarndawgswatchin and her second in a row in the Preferred 2. The four-year-old has raked in $438,914 and won 15 of her 60 starts for owner/breeders Julie Ferguson of Greely and Lloyd Stone of Portland (ON).
The Niagara Series for three-year-old pacing fillies kicked off earlier on the card. Roy piloted U.S. shipper Acrimony (A Rocknroll Dance) to a lifetime-best win in the fillyās Ontario debut. Trainer Jean-Francois Maguire combined with Julie Malenfant and a numbered company to buy her, who was racing for Ron Burke. The filly is now five-for-24 with $61,828 in earnings.
Woodbine Mohawk Park will host a similar card of action ā 10 races featuring a Preferred and a three-year-old pacing series ā on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Valedictory Series kicks off in race two. The racing will commence at 7:00 p.m. EST.
