Disneyman (Sportswriter) is the Quebec regional harness racing circuit’s new extended distance top dog after winning the 1.5 Mille at Ormstown on Saturday Sep. 10.
He went right to the front for Antoine Desrochers and led unopposed through the first of three laps. He felt pressure from Keystone Prestige (Daniel Audet) entering the second half-mile, but that rival began to fade after a mile spent on the rim.
Hooter Shooter (Stephane Brosseau) took his place as they entered the final quarter and eclipsed the leader by a length on the backstretch. Disneyman fought back on the final turn though, and he drove ahead again to prevail by a length in 3:09.1.
Jaydens Place, who won a three-miler earlier this season at St. Joseph de Lepage and a two-and-a-half-mile race at St. Aime-des-Lacs, finished third.
It was the first added distance event attempt for Disneyman, who is now 15-for-83 lifetime and has earned $66,626. Francis Richard trains the five-year-old gelding for Charles Gaudreault of Metis-Sur-Mer and Gabrielle St. Onge of St. Joseph de Lepage.
The Quebec regional circuit finals are set for Saturday, Sep. 17 at Hippodrome Trois-RiviĆØres.
