CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Commanding every station in the mile, Better Be In Love (Bettors Delight) was the best in the $2,800 Fillies and Mares featured harness racing pace Thursday (Oct. 19) evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell hustled the Brendan Mullen trainee off the gate out of post 5 and set down on the front end to lead through fractions of 28.2, 57.2, 1:27 and 1:55.3. Mullen co-owns the mare with Cole MacLaren and Erin McCardle. Elm Grove Mistress (Driven by Jason Hughes) was second ahead of Redlandbethanyjean (Brodie MacPhee).
Glider Man (Yankee Glide) captured the top trot of the evening as driver Hughes guided him to a 1:58.1 score for the Yankee Glide eight-year-old’s 30th lifetime win for trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. Doyle and Hughes scored another win as Ladylike won the finale in 1:56 while Summer Lovin won earlier on the card in 1:57.4 as part of a driving triple for the Stratford driver.
Adam Merner celebrated a driving triple Southern Heart (1:58.2) for trainer Ron Matheson, Woodmere Rollily (1:56) from the Melissa Rennie stable and Lorne Valley Barb (1:56.2) for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr.
Trainer Matheson doubled up on the evening with Stealing Bases (David Dowling) winning race 4 in 1:59.
