Docsphillycheese (Betterthancheddar) reached the peak of overnight harness racing at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (Jan. 15) as the stallion won the Preferred Pace for the first time.
He charged three-wide around cover for Alfie Carroll entering the backstretch in -14Ā°C conditions and wore down P L Oliver (Colin Kelly) to triumph by a quarter-length in 2:00.2. P L Oliver held the place spot over the late-arriving Heza Handy Man (Michael Horner).
DOCSPHILLYCHEESE REPLAY
Docsphillycheese had been racing near the top of the conditioned ranks and won nine of 31 races last season. The Britt Kennedy-trained stallion stepped up to the Preferred for the first time last week and finished sixth. His Monday win was his 17th lifetime in 60 starts, and it moved his earnings into six-digit territory. Kennedy co-owns and co-bred the five-year-old with Moneyclip Racing of Morpeth.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District is set to resume racing on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 5:50 p.m. EST.
