Donatover (Donato Hanover) went last to first on Thursday (May 11) at Rideau Carleton Raceway and won his second straight Preferred Handicap Trot.
The harness racing gelding trailed through the opening half-mile (panels of :27.2 and :57) and commenced his charge on the last backstretch journey. Sneaking by one horse on the inside, he popped out third over as the field moved through three-quarters in 1:25.2.
He was still four lengths back of the battle between Seeyou Men (Guy Gagnon) and Duke Lavictoire (Jacques Beaudoin) midway down the stretch. But with a 1/16th of a mile to go, the gelding exploded with trot and roared up to get his neck past both and score in 1:55.1.
Seeyou Men and Duke Lavictoire were second and third, respectively.
