Dontpokethedragon upsets in Preferred déjà vu

Dontpokethedragon (Custard The Dragon) repeated in the Preferred Pace at Flamboro Downs on Wednesday (Oct. 11), passing Lawless Shadow from the pocket for the second straight week in an 11-1 harness racing upset.

The gelding charged away from the outside post eight and put up the opening quarter time of :27. Lawless Shadow (Tyler Moore), in a rehash of last week’s events, went by him just past first station and secured command entering the second turn.

Lawless Shadow hit the half on top in :55.4 and had no opposition to his reign to three-quarters in 1:24.4. Dontpokethedragon emerged from the pocket heading towards the final turn and quickly dragged himself level with the leader. The pair battled into the stretch, and Dontpokethedragon inched in front in the closing stages for the second straight week to take the victory in 1:53.1.

Lawless Shadow finished second beaten a neck. Wilcat Rocky (Travis Henry) closed late from the three-hole and was third by three-quarters-of-a-length.

DONTPOKETHEDRAGON REPLAY

Dontpokethedragon, a former Alberta Sires Stakes champion, is now 32-for-116 lifetime and has earned $316,490. He has won two straight Preferreds and missed by a nose three back. Jodie Cullen trains the six-year-old for Paul Sanders of Surrey, J J J Stables of Prince George, and Travis Cullen.
