Amigo Volo (Father Patrick) extended his harness racing winning streak to four Preferreds in a row at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Apr. 8) in his first start since February.

The gelding went all the way from post eight in the $36,000 contest with Tyler Borth at the lines. He cut :27.1, :57.1, and 1:26 panels with 2023 Goodtimes winner Southwind Coors (Chris Christoforou) waiting in the pocket.

The field traveled single-file around the last turn, and it became a two-horse battle down the stretch with Southwind Coors emerging to take on the leader. The challenger narrowed the gap all the way to the wire, but Amigo Volo had enough to reach home a winner by a half-length in 1:52.4.

Looks Like Moni (James MacDonald) passed horses late for third. The winner paid $8.50.

AMIGO VOLO REPLAY

Amigo Volo is now four-for-six in 2024 and has won four Preferreds in a row. He last raced on Feb. 26 in a one-and-a-half length victory and qualified on Apr. 1 in preparation for Monday’s start. The gelding, a double Breeders Crown champion, has now earned $2,453,426 lifetime and has won 36 races in 94 starts. He has not raced below the top level for more than one start since 2021. Meg Crone trains the seven-year-old for Pinske Stables of Plato and Dave Miller of Lake Mary.

The next card at Woodbine Mohawk Park is scheduled for Thursday, Apr. 11. The 10-race card will see the start of the Ontario-sired Spring Series, with two pacing divisions and one trotting group. First post is set for 7:10 p.m. EDT.
