Shadow Play colt Dows Up added a fourth straight win to his unbeaten harness racing career start in the first leg of the Autumn Series for Ontario-sired two- and three-year-old pacing males at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
The colt went wire-to-wire in 1:57.2 for Daniel Clements in the first division. Inked In Pink (Scott Wray) rode the pocket to a second-place finish. Thersomthinggoinon (Beau Brown) was third.
DOWS UP REPLAY
Dows Up is perfect through his first four lifetime starts with $13,900 in earnings. Lindsey Kerr trains the $16,000 Ontario Select sale purchase for Sally Charlton of Tecumseh, David Deighton of Chatham, and Sergio Vespa of Belleville. The 1:57.2 clocking was his best yet.
Hes Sporty (Sportswriter, Colin Kelly) captured the second division in similar style but with a flashier margin in 1:58.1. He was four lengths the best over Mason Street (Austin Sorrie), who kept his nose in front of Liberty Royal (Travis Henry) at the line for second.
HES SPORTY REPLAY
Doreen and Jim Flynn own Hes Sporty, a homebred. Jim Flynn trains the sophomore gelding, who is now two-for-five to date and has earned $11,125.
Shanghai James (Shanghai Phil, Scott Coulter) broke his maiden in the final division, scoring a pacesetting victory in 1:58.1. He shrugged off Iconic Seelster (Jason Ryan) on the final turn; Dream With Me (Kelly) nabbed that rival at the wire for place.
SHANGHAI JAMES REPLAY
Shanghai James has made three starts for trainer Mark Steacy. The two-year-old gelding is a homebred for Hudson Standardbred Stable.
The second leg for pacing males is set for Tuesday, Oct. 18 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District with the final a week later.
The trackās next card features the second leg of the series for trotting fillies. Racing will begin at 4:50 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 14.
