CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – New Legacy (Father Patrick) claimed the third harness racing leg of the Island Oceans Trot Challenge, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables, during a Jennifer Doyle trained triple on Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

New Legacy

The $5,300 Island Oceans Trot leg saw the Doyle trained New Legacy launch from post 2 and lead through splits of 29, 59.1, 1:29.4 and 1:59.1 for a one-and-three-quarter length win over Irish Ray (Driven by Adam Merner) and third-place Chasin Dreams (Marc Campbell). Jason Hughes had the lines of New Legacy for owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe.

NEW LEGACY REPLAY

Write The Rules (Hughes) was another Doyle trained winner in the Race 5 Town Of Stratford Pace stopping the clock in 1:56.3 for a $2,450 purse. Shake N Blake (David Dowling) topped the featured $3,200 fillies and mares pace from the Doyle stable in 1:55.2 to complete the training triple.

Adam Merner was a popular sight in the winner’s circle during the 12-dash program with three driving wins and a training victory on the card. Merner drove Downtown Tonight (1:55.2) to her third straight win for trainer Tom Weatherbie, as well as Woodmere Lizzie (1:58.3) to victory for trainer David O’Brien and Lady Hess (1:56.2) for a lifetime best score from the Jamie Smith barn for her third straight win.

The race 12 finale was more Merner with Ms Moyse and catch driver Corey MacPherson rallying up for a neck decision in 1:57.4 for the Charlottetown trainer.

Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
